About Our Program

The dance program at Jones College Prep takes a progressive, conceptual approach to dance education.  Aligned with the IL Fine Arts Standards, the program is built on a foundation of learning how the elements of the body, space, time and energy are applied in dance styles and forms that span cultures and traditions. During their journey, dancers cultivate their unique artistic identities and skills by engaging in processes of creating, refining, performing and analyzing.  Two culminating events, our Fall and Spring concerts, offer an opportunity for the students to present their work to the greater Jones community.  In-class viewing and field trips to live performances create opportunities for students to analyze and reflect on professional works, integrating dance vocabulary into their critical writing.  The Jones Dance Program is proud to host guest artist partnerships with local and national arts organizations including Ayodele Drum and Dance, Columbia College Chicago, DanceWorks Chicago, The Auditorium Theatre, Natya Dance Theater, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Kim Bartosik Dance Company, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Gus Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago and many more.  Upper level dancers may join the JCP Dance Ensemble, a performing company representing Jones at events across Chicago.  No matter your prior experience, Jones is a place where every body can dance!
