About Our Program
The dance program at Jones College Prep takes a progressive, conceptual approach to dance education. Aligned with the IL Fine Arts Standards, the program is built on a foundation of learning how the tools of the body, space, time and movement quality are applied in dance styles and forms that span cultures and traditions. During their journey, dancers develop their unique artistic identities and skills by engaging in processes of creating, refining, performing and analyzing. Two culminating events, our Fall and Spring concerts, offer an opportunity for the students to present their work to the greater Jones community. In-class viewing and field trips to live performances create opportunities for students to analyze and reflect on professional works, integrating dance vocabulary into their critical writing. The Jones Dance Program is proud to feature guest artist partnerships with local and national arts organizations including Ayodele Drum and Dance, Columbia College Chicago, DanceWorks Chicago, the Auditorium Theatre, Natya Dance Theater, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Kim Bartosik Dance Company, Dance Theatre of Harlem, and many more. Building on its foundation of creating a college preparatory dance experience, JCP Dance is excited to offer its first-ever Dual Enrollment Dance class, where students will be able to earn college credit for their work with us at Jones. Where every body can dance!
