No audition is required to enroll in Honors Beginning Mixed Chorus.
Students with significant background in reading and singing music may schedule an audition with Ms. Colby to consider placement in Eagle Singers (Honors Intermediate Mixed Chorus I). The placement auditions are meant to ensure a student is fully prepared for all of the content in Eagle Singers - it is not a determination of overall singing ability nor potential. Strong singers who haven’t done much music theory or composition will achieve higher grades learning the material in beginning choir than struggling to catch up in intermediate choir. Please email Ms. Colby at ktcolby@cps.edu to schedule an audition.
To be considered for Concert Choir (Advanced Mixed Chorus) students must have successfully taken at least one year of choir at Jones, with priority placement to Seniors and Juniors.
Sing 20-30 seconds of a song you feel comfortable singing
Read a short excerpt of a piece of choral music (solfege will be provided)
Colby will lead you through some vocal excercises to listen to the different parts of your voice
Be prepared to discuss how you learn music, what challenges you, and what your motivation is to take choir.
The placement audition isn't about showing off your singing skills, it's really about Ms. Colby seeing how your brain processes music at this moment. Based on what happens, Ms. Colby will make a recommendation, and then together you'll discuss what a successful choir placement will be.
