Recognizing the diverse needs of students for challenging coursework and college| university preparation, the High School offers grade 11 & 12 students the opportunity to complete the following options:
the full International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), which gives students an IB Diploma as well as as a NYS high school diploma
a selection of individual IB Diploma subjects (concurrently enrolled with ACE coursework), coupled with AP coursework, and SUPA coursework
a selection of non-IB coursework , which gives successful students a NYS diploma
The IB Diploma is a rigorous programme of study that focuses college and university preparation; however, the skills acquired by taking IB coursework are applicable to every field of study and pursuit students might have post-graduation.
IB coursework is globally recognized for its focus on the whole-child--building academic skills, social awareness, global fluency, and fostering a sense of life-long-learning. It is outstanding preparation for university but most importantly helps students build skills of:
critical thinking
strong verbal & written communication
self-advocacy
empathy
time management & organization
Choosing Your Program at CPP
In the CPP District we counsel and strongly encourage families to select an academic program guided by our "best fit" philosophy. In short, this means taking courses and engaging in programs which fit the student's academic interests and abilities.
Overall, we encourage a program of study which:
develops the student's strengths, interests and passions
matches the student's learning style
challenges the student to grow and develop into a vibrant member of the learning community
prepares the student to pursue their preferred course of study, preferred career path, or preferred service path
This course selection planner is designed to help students select courses in the junior year. It is not an official course selection document--instead it is to help students map out their two-year plan and create a foundation for conversation (with their counselor or the IBDP Coordinator).
Junior Anticipated Diploma Candidates should select three HL courses and two SL courses for grade 11--the third SL course is scheduled in grade 12.
NOTES:
one SL course must be foreign language
some SL courses run every-other-year (world religions)
the only group that can be "skipped" is group 6
