The AIG program integrates innovative literature studies across diverse topics and grade levels to sustain student engagement while fostering higher-order thinking skills. Novels are selected for each grade level based on various criteria, including lexile levels, student interests, and curriculum topics relevant to the grade. Themes such as service, perspective, and other characteristic concepts are also considered in the selection process. Additionally, lists of appropriate novels for gifted learners have been referenced from reputable sources, including The Davidson Institute, Hoagies Gifted Education, and William and Mary. The literature studies are tailored for each grade level. Kindergarten novel studies are made to engage students in the idea of working with one book over a period to time and analyze the story in different ways. First grade will introduce students to working with chapter books.
The AIG program offers personalized math instruction tailored to each child's individual learning level, utilizing the Eureka curriculum, Freckle, and additional resources provided by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI). Furthermore, the program incorporates STEM activities from "Applying the Standard STEM," wherein students engage in solving real-world problems through a comprehensive process of research, brainstorming, planning, innovation, reflection, and effective communication, both collaboratively in teams and independently as individuals.
IG (Intellectually Gifted) students will receive AIG services in the regular education setting. The AIG Coordinator will collaborate closely with classroom teachers to provide these students with appropriately challenging academic instruction in conjunction with additional intellectually stimulating opportunities and ensure their needs are met through differentiated instruction. These students are not performing above their peers academically, so it is imperative they remain in class to get core instruction.
