Scientific research on language evolution has been making remarkable progress for some decades now, leading to a rapid growth of interdisciplinary research communities with diverse thematic and methodological foci. In 2022, for the first time, we will hold a joint conference co-organized by Evolang, Protolang, and Evolinguistics.

Ways to (proto)language conference series
The Protolang conference series creates an interdisciplinary platform for scholarly discussion on the origins of symbolic communication distinctive of human beings, with a thematic focus on delineating the genetic, anatomical, neuro-cognitive, socio-cultural, semiotic, symbolic and ecological requirements for evolving (proto)language.

Evolinguistics

Evolinguistics: Integrative Studies of Language Evolution for Co-creative communication
Evolutionary linguistics to study past, present, and future of co-creative linguistic communication. Supported by MEXT, Japan, 2017-2022.

This conference will provide an unprecedented opportunity to bring together all the language evolution research communities, enabling a global platform for interdisciplinary discussion.
