At the start of each year, Saturday Club students, from all over the country, are asked to make a self portrait in any style, using any media. All the portraits are then exhibited together in November, as part of a big event in London.
This year the exhibition was on the top floor of the iconic City Hall and we had an inspiring trip to London to view it.
Our Cornwall College self portraits this year were inspired by the painter Francoise Nielly. We decided to paint onto clear acetate, so the students had to learn to paint in reverse, with the black detail being added before the paint . They were exhibited shiny side out, so that the brush marks were concealed and only a single layer of paint would be revealed from the front.
