RKA Learning Support Coordinator
Kay Henare
Kay has 20 years of experience in the Primary School sector. These roles have stemmed from office administrator, teacher-aide, board member, and the valuable PTA member. In October 2021 she began her role as Learning Support Coordinator (Kaitakawaenga) under the Kāhui Ako in Ruapehu. Kay has empathy for ensuring inclusive opportunities are there for all learners.
Having Iwi connections Kay has contributed voluntarily to Iwi initiatives, Local Tribunal Claims, Marae from the Mountain to the Sea, and Primary School Mana Kopara Regional Kapa haka. She has knowledge and experience in Te Reo Māori and Tikanga Maori.
This is her second term as a Waimarino-Waiouru Community Board Member for Ruapehu District Council. Kay is involved with supporting and team-leading events such as Raetihi Country Market, Raetihi Xmas Carnival, Local Wild Food Challenge, & Puanga ki Ruapehu.
Role
Remove barriers to access learning through working with schools, agencies and whānau/family.
Partner with families in their connections with Schools/ECE and agencies.
Partner with whānau/families to access services to identify health issues such as hearing, vision, ADHD, Autism, FASD or other concerns that you may have.
Identify and respond to learning support needs.
Screening for specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia.
Forward planning to enhance best support.
Following children's learning from ECE to Secondary. The LSC role is designed so that families/whānau should only need to tell their story once.
RKA Learning Support Coordinator
Yvonne Bieleski
Yvonne began her role as a Learning Support Coordinator (LSC) for the Ruapehu Kāhui Ako in July 2021. Before her current role, she worked in the region as a Resource Teacher, Learning & Behaviour (RTLB). Yvonne’s 30+ years as a teacher have included working with ORS students at Arahunga Specialist School and in mainstream/regular schools. She has taught across the tertiary, secondary, primary, and early childhood education sectors. Leadership roles have included SENCO, Deputy Principal, Mentor Teacher, Visiting Tutor for student teachers with Bethlehem Tertiary Institute, and a Line Manager at Arahunga School. Yvonne has also worked with youth and adults at Feats as a skills and employment search tutor. Yvonne’s passion is focused on the learning needs of children and youth, partnering with whānau/families, and working with schools to receive learning support by removing barriers.
Yvonne has a Masters in Specialist Teaching, Bachelor of Education, and diplomas in Primary and ECE teaching.

Whānau/Parents:
If you have concerns about your child's learning, speak to your child's teacher who will know how to contact an LSC.
LSC can follow your child’s learning journey from ECE to Year 13.
Teachers: Follow your school's process in contacting an LSC for assessments and discuss a learning pathway for individual students.
