BIOL 306 - Anatomy & Physiology

Anatomy and physiology increased my knowledge of the structure and function of the human organ systems. By having examined human cadavers, I have a more proficient understanding of how nutrition influences individual systems.

BIOL 207 - Microbiology

This course broadened my knowledge of microbiology with an emphasis on bacteria and diseases.

Unknown Antibiotic Analysis

BIOL 402 - Histology

Histology is the microscopic study of vertebrate tissues and organs. This course taught me how the structure of tissues and organs relates to their function, which led me to have a more well-rounded knowledge of how nutrition can influence them.

Unknown Tissue Analysis

BIOL 336 - Embryology

This course focused on the developmental anatomy of vertebrates. My knowledge of anatomy and physiology expanded after this class. I was able to more clearly conceptualize nutritional needs required during pregnancy and how the necessity of proper nutrition during pregnancy is important for fetal development.

BIOL 311 - Entomology

Entomology is the study of insects and their ecology. I learned about the interactions they have with people, specifically in regards to medical and forensic entomology. This course taught me the value of proper documentation and organization through a semester-long project of creating an insect collection.

BIOL 222 - Genetics & Molecular Biology

The study of classical genetics, gene structure, and mechanisms of gene expression. A very writing-intensive course that also utilized model systems commonly seen in molecular genetic research labs.

BIOL 221 - Ecology

The examination of basic principles in ecology with extensive field investigation of numerous types of ecosystems. Specifically, we observed energy and nutrient movement through ecosystems, what forces influence those ecosystems, and their interactions between organisms and the environment. I collaborated with classmates on a research project for this class, which we later presented at Concordia’s Celebration of Student Scholarship Symposium. Through the project, I gained valuable research experience pertaining to experimental design, sample collection, and analysis.

BIOL 122 - Evolution & Diversity

An introduction to the major concept of biology-evolution theory. The diversity of life on earth, excluding the vertebrates of the animal kingdom, is explored in light of this concept.

BIOL 121 - Cell Biology

Introduction to cell structure and function. Topics covered include cell reproduction, mechanisms by which energy is harvested and used by cells, and how information is stored and used within cells.
