Wordless picture book
Fable
Caldecott Medal (2010)
The illustrations are gorgeous, it has animals, and is short and simple
A mouse, in an attempt to hide from an owl, finds himself on a lion's back. The lion is angry at first but lets the mouse go. Later on, the lion finds himself trapped in a net set by hunters. The mouse frees the lion by chewing his way through the net. From that moment on, mouse and lion exist harmoniously together.
I have always known this Aesop fable, but have never read Pinkney's rendition of it. The story is easy enough to follow that a picture book makes sense. This story can be used to teach forgiveness.
