This book teaches colors with a gimmick--pop the dots and say the colors while looking at the pictures!
This book is appropriate for 6 months to 3 years old, but it can also be useful in teaching colors to students with autism in the lower grades, since most are visual/tactile learners. This book can be introduced as a read-aloud but also makes a great independent read for pre-readers.
The pictures and text are equally important. The pictures are photographs (actual representations of the object) and not illustrations. This makes the objects more relatable to the earliest of readers who may not yet be able to generalize.
This book is made to be read many times. The size of the book is perfect for the age group that it is geared towards, at ten pages in length. Having pop bubbles on both the cover and the back of the book make it even more appealing to early pre-readers.
This book is very simplistic in nature but is a must-have for any 3K to 2nd grade SPED classroom with a representation of students with ASD. Students should be taught to say the colors aloud while popping the bubbles using direct instruction. I bought it for my own classroom! It also makes a good gift for toddlers.
This book is very useful in teaching students with ASD colors.
