School attendance to your child's overall academic success! Please send your child to school every day unless they are sick. We also encourage any doctor/dentist visit to be scheduled after school when possible. Thank you for your support!
We will continue to work on comprehension when reading a story. After a read aloud, we are asking questions such as "tell me what happened in the story". We want students to be able to open the book and retell the story starting with the beginning, going to the middle and telling what happened at the end. In shared reading we are still looking at directionality, letters vs words and punctuation. We also look at how our voice should sound according to certain punctuation. For example, if there is a question mark our voice raises. Or if there is an exclamation mark, we may get louder.
Now that we have learned all our letters and practiced how to form them, we will be exploring our letters with lots of alphabet activities. We will be doing acitivities such as matching the letter to its sound, matching capital and lowercase letters and even sorting them according to what they look like. You can continue to help your child at home by asking him/her what letter they see whenever you see print. It can be at the grocery store, in a book at night or even on their device.
We will be looking at all the math concepts we learned this year and reviewing them. We will still be practicing counting one to one, counting to 30, identifying numbers to 10, composing and decomposing numbers and using comparative language such as greater than and less than.
We will continue to discuss lifecycles as well as looking at the season of summer. We will discuss all the different activities and clothing we do/wear in the summer.
We will be talking about what it's like to be a kindergartener.
