This week, you will learn how to play different rhythms using the bow. You will recognize these rhythms from music class. Each type of note has a different length. The amount of bow you should use & the speed of the bow will depend on how long the note is.
This is a quarter note. You might call this note “Ta” in music class. A quarter note is 1 beat long. When you see a quarter note, you will use the full bow from one end to the other end.
These are eighth notes. You might call this rhythm “Ti-Ti” in music class. Eighth notes are usually played in pairs, such as the one pictured here. When two eighth notes are combined, they are 1 beat long. When you see eighth notes, use only half of the bow. Eighth notes will be twice as fast as quarter notes and there will be two eighth notes in 1 beat.
After you are familiar with the difference between these 2 rhythms, please download the “Rhythm Chart” available on the Schoology Orchestra group located in the “Resources” tab on the sidebar.
This week, you will be playing the rhythms pictured in Row 1 & Row 2. You can pick any open string to play these rhythms on.
When you see a quarter note (Ta), use the full bow from one end to the other. It should last 1 beat long.
When you see eighth notes (Ti-Ti), only use half of the bow. You can play eighth notes on the lower half or on the upper half of your bow. Remember that when two eighth notes are combined, they make up 1 beat.
