"I explored the liminal space of the “caverns measureless to man” (27) in Kubla Khan. The cave represents a place where the stream of consciousness or “the sacred river” can reach but is physically out of reach for a human. My piece represents this idea because I am depicting a place that fills many of my memories, all I need to do is close my eyes and let imagination take me to the California coast, to being 10 years old."
Sophia encapsulates immortality by reliving and making a collage out of both old and new images, combining memories into a statement of personality that persists immortally. By putting these pictures into a unified collage, she thereby turns the memories in each picture immortal.
Through piecing together fragments of memory, Sophia crafted an artwork resembling a place that is only achievable through accessing the secondary imagination. A selection of these images were taken by Libby, and Sophia's recreation of them created a new scene that combines their two lives.
