Students will be expected to come to class prepared every day whether to enhance drawing skills, painting techniques, or create something marvelous with clay. Every day will be a new adventure for both myself and my students in the art classroom.
By creating a student-centered learning environment. Student progress will be measured by creativity/originality, understanding/knowledge, craftsmanship, and effort. Each student will receive a detailed rubric when given a project for assessment, in order to help them achieve their goals within my class. Student and parent resources will also be provided on my website with contact info and a continued bio page.
Please let me know if you or your child has any further questions. I look forward to working with you both over the next year or further!
"Research in neuroscience and brain-targeted teaching shows that embedding the arts into instruction results in higher levels of student mastery and can improve student mental health. Studies also show that drawing boosts memory and cognition, nearly doubling recall in students as they process information and translate it into semantic learning."

As an art educator with a decade of experience, I am passionate about fostering creativity, self-expression, and personal growth in students of all ages. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from Western Washington University and a Post-Baccalaureate Secondary Teaching Certification, which have provided me with a strong foundation in both artistic practice and pedagogy. My expertise spans traditional and digital media, including drawing, painting, ceramics, graphic design, and proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Google Education tools.
Beyond the classroom, I have taken an active role in building artistic communities. I have organized school-wide art showcases, led community-based exhibitions, and developed mentorship programs that support students’ artistic and social-emotional growth. As a Board Member of the Idaho Art Education Association, I advocate for the importance of arts in education and collaborate with fellow educators to expand creative opportunities for students.
Throughout my career, I have navigated challenges with resilience and dedication, staying focused on creating a safe, inclusive, and inspiring learning environment. My ability to build meaningful connections with students, colleagues, and the broader community has been a driving force in fostering a love for the arts. By leveraging my strengths in collaboration, leadership, and relationship-building, I strive to empower students and cultivate a creative space where they feel valued and supported.
My goal is to continue inspiring young artists, nurturing their confidence, and advocating for the power of art in education.

"Art is important to me because it is one of my favorite ways to express myself. I enjoy that I can make new friends and having a good relationship with my art teacher. The type of art I like is just simply sketching or using markers. I love that art is for anyone and that you don't have to be talented to draw." - 9th Grade Student
"Art is important to me because it provided a creative outlet though all the struggles I had as a child and it gave me a way to escape into a fantasy world and helped me make friends. I enjoy art because it is a calming thing for me just to sit back and draw something that I found interesting. I mostly like drawing but I have a fondness for all forms of art." - 10th Grade Student
"I see art as a way to share or express the way one views or perceives the world. Whether it is ideas, feelings, or rules it can all be thought of in different ways and sometimes it is easier to show someone than use words. Art is also a representation of a person themselves and can tell you more about them than anything else can. This is why everyone's art is different because we are all unique. For me, art helps lessen my struggle with perfectionism. This is something I give myself a hard time about and by painting or drawing something I don't always like, I allow myself to try new things and do things I never would have done." - 9th Grade Student
"I think that art is important because it is a way to express individuality through physical creations of some sort. Art expresses emotions that cant always be so easily described using words. It is a universal language that can be understood despite language barriers or different time periods. Art will always be expressive of the individual making it, and the thing they are trying to convey, whatever that may be.
I love to make 3D art sculptures specifically because it's fun to have hands on time with the piece, but it also can at times be more difficult because it is going to be seen from all angles so each aspect has to be taken care of before it is truly complete. " - 12th Grade Student
"Art is important to me because it can build physical emotions that I cant describe on my own. I enjoy how art can calm you from stresses or issues in life. I like any art that is able to show an emotion and evoke a feeling. I also really like art that can make you feel the need to stop and figure out what the piece is trying to convey." - 11th Grade Student
"Art is important because it gives students a way to express their creativity without any restrictions. It is also great because it can be a stress reliever. By doing art it not only gives us a mental break, but it can also help develop our world views and values. Art is something that everyone should have access to." - 9th Grade Student
"I have so much I can say, but it allows me to express myself and it is my therapy which is the main reason why it is important to me. It creates a sense of safety for me and allows a safe place where I can let go of feelings. It also lets me experience different cultures and expressions of others. I do not have a specific type of art style or medium that I like because I enjoy a lot but my favorite ones would have to be ones that are emotion evoking and reflections of the world or time period/person. Art is an expression of oneself and it may not be a core subject but it is just as important. Art is not necessarily defined but is used in a big variety of everything we as a society see. " - 12th Grade Student
"I enjoy art because it is freeing. It is a way to capture moments or express feelings." - 7th Grade Student
"Art means a lot because it's my way of getting my emotions out there if I don't want to talk about something." - 10th Grade Student
"Art has a great impact on mental health, and can help to boost mood. Art can help to grow your confidence, work through emotions and show off your beautiful personality and creativity. :)" - 8th Grade Student
