This course explores how fashion influences everyday life and introduces students to the fashion industry. Topics covered include fashion fundamentals, elements and principles of design, textiles, consumerism, and fashion-related careers, with an emphasis on personal application. FCCLA and/or DECA may be an integral part of this course.

Unit 1: Hand Sewing
Demonstrate how to sew buttons
Select fabric based on heat conductivity
Follow procedures to create a coffee cozy
Unit 2: Machine Sewing
Identify tools commonly used in sewing and properly threading a machine
Prepare a bookmark using a variety of stitches
Demonstrate how to complete a variety of sewing skills and show in textile notebook
Prepare a pillowcase using a color scheme and appropriate fabric based on consumer needs
Unit 3: Clothing Repair & Care
Describe how to care for a variety of fabrics

April 12th is this year's Art show, which will also host our very first Fashion Show!
You will be required to complete a fashion piece for this show and attend the event. If you are unable to attend for any reason, please make arrangements with your teacher.
