North Carolina has been a member of the WIDA Consortium since 2008. As a member of the WIDA Consortium, North Carolina utilizes several WIDA Assessments for the screening of potential English Learners and the annual assessment of English Learners to measure progress towards exiting from the EL program. WIDA Screener Kindergarten, WIDA Screener 1-12 and WIDA Alternate Screener (K-12).
WIDA Screener assessments are administered within 30 days of enrollment for all students K-12 identified as eligible for EL Screening based on Home Language Survey (HLS) responses.
WIDA ACCESS Kindergarten, WIDA ACCESS (1-12), and WIDA Alternate ACCESS (K-12).
North Carolina State-Wide Testing Window 2026-2027: Monday, January 11, 2027 through Friday, March 12, 2027.
All students who are identiifed as an Multilingual Learner(ML)/English Learner (EL) in grades K-13 who are in membership are required to be assessed during the window, even students who have been opted out of English Learner services.
