If you are attending a college visit during a school day (not part of a field trip), you must fill out the below form and submit the completed form to the front office.
Columbia High School hosts representatives from more than 275 colleges and universities from around the United States and internationally each year. The visits are scheduled for 30 minutes each, though you may chat longer if schedules allow. Often our visits will be held during FLEX. If you are a half day student who won't be in school during the time of a visit, please inform Mr. Grove so they can make arrangements for the attendance secretary to let you into the building early, or let you in again after you leave.
College reps work in the admissions office of the college or university so quite often the person you meet at these visits is the one who will read and review your application. By meeting the college rep, you are able to ask specific questions about the school and demonstrate your interest in attending that college or university. Learning more about you and your interests will be invaluable to your college admissions rep as they review your application.
We always encourage students to visit colleges or universities when possible. Visiting colleges can help in your application decision. A good time to tour a college or university campus is during school holiday’s in which colleges are still open and in session. Visiting a campus while school is not in session will give you a different feel as compared to when it is in session. Imagine walking into CHS during the summer versus while school is in session. You cannot get a true feel to what campus life is like when school is not in session.
We know that it is not possible to do in-person tours to every college or university you may be interested in. CHS has teamed up with YouVisit and now offers more than 600 college and university immersive virtual campus tours. https://www.youvisit.com/collegesearch/
Contact Admissions/Recruiting Officers of any college or universities to set up a tour. Inquire about any preview days that they may have as well. You may also ask if you are able to sit in any classes that are in session.
College Visitation Forms can be picked up in Student Service and must be completed at least one day prior to a college visit. It is the student's responsibility to inform their teachers of the visit by having the teachers sign their approval on the visitation form and to complete all missed classroom work and instruction. The verification of college visitation portion of the form must be completed by a representative of the visited college and returned to Student Services within two days after the visit in order for the absence to not be considered unexcused.
