Welcome to the Colby Band!

The Colby Band program provides instrumental music instruction to 6th through 12th grade students in the Colby School District. Students are given the opportunity to grow as musicians through lessons, activities, trips, and a wide range of performing ensembles. Those ensembles include the Beginner Band (6th Grade), Middle School Band (7th/8th Grade), High School Band (9th-12th Grade), Marching Band (8th-12th Grade), Pep Band (9th-12th Grade), Show Band (9th-12th Grade), and many other smaller ensembles that perform throughout the year.

Stomp Composition Project

For the last month and a half or so, the HS band students have been working on a Stomp style composition project. Stomp is a group of percussionists that use everyday items to create some pretty cool rhythmic compositions.

Students picked groups and were tasked with writing, rehearsing, and then performing their very own compositions from scratch. Students learned a lot about the composing process, and how to run effective rehearsals.

This week we recorded their final product! Enjoy!

Nathan Larsen

Mr. Larsen became the Colby Band Director starting in the 2014-15 school year. Mr. Larsen is a graduate of Mary D. Bradford High School and Carthage College. His primary instrument is clarinet and also plays saxophone. Mr. Larsen previously taught in Kenosha for 1 year before coming to Colby.
