Introduce you to the functions and features of GoGuardian
As a result of completing this module, you will learn how to:
Access your account
Create a class and add students
Launch a session
Monitor, manage and communicate with students during a session
Create allow and block lists
View student browsing reports
All classes are rostered via SchoolTool, but you can also create classes manually. In this video you will learn how to create a class, set a schedule, add students, and coteachers.
See how to start a session and monitor students. Once you launch a session, you will see a tile view for each student in your class that is logged in to their cohoes.org Chrome account or Chromeboook. From this view you can quickly see what site a student is currently looking at.
Please note that students can only be monitored within school hours and only if their device is connected to the school's network. You will not be able to monitor students that are at home or that are not signed into Chrome or a Chromebook with their cohoes.org account.
Once you launch a session, you will see a tile view for each student in your class. There are several ways to adjust your view. You'll learn how to:
Sort, rearrange, and adjust the size of Tiles
Exclude students from a session
Expand your view of a student's screen
Return to an active monitoring session
Update session time
End a session
Troubleshooting Tip: During a GoGuardian session, if a student does not show up in your dashboard, check the student’s device to see that the GoGuardian extension is installed in the Chrome browser. If it is not, this is due to the device storage being full. You will need to put in an IT Ticket and ask for the Chromebook to be power washed. Set the Chromebook aside so that when IT comes the device can be reset. In the meantime, have the student login to another device.
Teachers and students can communicate in multiple ways during a class session. This tutorial provides a demo of the chat, announcement, and check-in tools.
Learn how to use the following teacher controls :
Open Tab - Open a website in a new tab on a student device
Lock / Unlock Device - Disable or enable browsing for a student/s
Apply Scene - Block or allow websites the student/s can access during the session
Screenshot - Take a snapshot of a student's screen for documentation purposes
Close - Close tabs on a student's device
Present Screen - Allow students to see a live view of your screen
Controls can be applied to the entire class, individual students, or a group of students.
Set the scene for your classroom session with either an Allowed Websites List or Blocked Websites List.
Allowed List - Great for keeping students focused on an assessment, assignment or task. Students can only access websites you allow. Everything else will be blocked.
Blocked List - Great for blocking distracting sites. Students can browse any website except for the ones you blocked.
This video will show you how to create a Scene and how to apply a Scene to an active sessions.
This video will provide an overview of the following:
Viewing student activity during a session
Enabling Off-Task Alerts
Enabling reporting emails
Running a student browsing history report (learn more)
