As a result of completing this module, you will:
Create bookmarks
Organize Chrome bookmarks
Create and use Chrome profiles
Set startup pages in Chrome
By creating bookmarks in Chrome, you can save shortcuts to your favorite webpages and navigate to them in seconds from anywhere you are logged in to your Chrome account. In this video I'll show you how to create bookmarks for sites you frequently access or want to save and some other tips for decluttering your bookmarks bar.
Over time, as you bookmark more sites, your bookmarks bar will not be able to display all bookmarks you saved. In this video, I will show you how to create bookmark folders and subfolders and how to organize saved and new bookmarks into these folders to help you more easily access the sites you have saved. Once you learn how to do this, you can set up bookmark folders for classes you teach with subfolders to store web resources for each unit.
Get some tips for managing created bookmarks and folders such as how to open an entire folder of bookmarks in one click, rename and delete bookmarks, access the Bookmarks manager, and import bookmarks from one Chrome Account to another.
During the school day, you may want to check your personal email or work on a file in your personal account. Often teachers try to add another account in Google. While this works, it can lead to confusion because while being logged in to different Google accounts under one Chrome browser often causes files to open in the wrong account. It is best practice to keep your work account and school account separate. This is easy to do once you learn how to set up Chrome profiles. Once setup you can easily switch between accounts in two clicks, having your personal and work accounts open in 2 separate windows. This video will show you how to do this and provide a demonstration. (Will not work on school issued Chromebooks)
The startup page is the page or a set of pages that open when you open Google Chrome. You can set your startup page for Google Chrome to open the New Tab page, previous pages from last browsing session, or specific page or pages. As a teacher, it is very likely you open the same set of pages at the beginning of each school day, so learning how to set your Chrome Startup page will pay huge dividends in terms of saving you time each day navigating to these pages!
