Students are required to undertake English in each Semester of years 9 & 10
Students read, discuss, evaluate, and analyse written and film texts. They write their own original texts in a variety of styles and build on feedback about their writing skills. Students read a novel and analyse it for the themes, ideas and concerns it presents. They learn about a wide range of media text types, and identify the way features of these texts use language to build arguments and persuade their audience.

In Semester Two, year 10 students embark on a Passion Project that allows them to follow their own interest and develop, grow, and strengthen their speaking, reading, and writing skills.
In Year 9/10 Literacy, students engage with a variety of text types, including informative, persuasive, narrative, and visual texts. They develop their skills through personal and reflective writing tasks and apply their literacy knowledge to real-life contexts to build practical communication skills. A key component of the course is a Passion Project, where students choose a topic of interest, research it using a range of sources and present their findings in multiple formats. This project encourages creativity, critical thinking, and showcases students’ ability to understand and use different text types effectively. This subject is designed to build students literacy skills and is most suited for students who struggle with mainstream English classes.
