The information below is a brief summary of areas of study and learning program only, for more detailed information please access the VCAA VCE Physics Study Design using the link below.
Only units 1 and 2 Environmental Science will be offered in 2026.
Areas of study
How are Earth’s dynamic systems interconnected to support life?
How do Earth’s systems change over time?
How do scientific investigations develop understanding of how Earth’s systems support life?
Learning program & assessment:
Practical work is a central component of learning and assessment in Environmental Science. This will include activities such as laboratory experiments, fieldwork, and modelling.
The students create a logbook of activities including experiments, media responses, drawing/photos, diagrams and evaluations to demonstrate their understanding of the study design.
This unit provides the foundations for Units 3&4 and comprises two content SACs and one practical investigation.
Areas of study
What affects Earth’s capacity to sustain life?
How can we manage pollution to sustain Earth’s systems?
How can we manage food and water security to sustain Earth’s systems?
How do scientific endeavours contribute to minimising human impacts on Earth’s systems?
Learning program & assessment:
Practical work is a central component of learning and assessment in Environmental Science. Students will develop practical techniques and skills in the use of scientific equipment through fieldwork to assess and monitor air, water and soil quality.
Students will use secondary data, media responses and drawings/photographs for analysis when exploring the relationships between environmental contaminants and Earth’s systems.
This unit provides the foundations for Units 3&4 and comprises two content SACs and one research investigation.
