In Years 9 & 10, students are beginning to plan their future pathway. They complete subjects in English, Mathematics, Science and Health. Students also choose elective subjects that will prepare them for their Senior School pathway. Each semester, students must complete five subjects from the CORE blocks and an additional three subjects from the ELECTIVE blocks (or a Wednesday VET or Work Experience offering).
Compulsory subjects:
English - Compulsory subject each semester across both Year 9 and Year 10
Maths - Compulsory subject each semester across both Year 9 and Year 10
Careers and Work – Compulsory to complete for one semester at either Year 9 or Year 10
Other subject requirements:
Science – Must complete any two semester length science units over the two years
Health - Must complete any two semester length health units over the two years
Other key information:
Wednesday - On a Wednesday Years 9&10 students have three options:
Choose a subject from each of the three ELECTIVE blocks (Block F = 2 periods, Block G = 2 periods, block H = 1 period)
Choose a VET offering
Undertake Work Experience (subject to meeting the legal requirements)
Fast tracking - Students wishing to ‘fast track’ Unit 1 & Unit 2 VCE studies must have been approved by the current teacher of that study, the current Illuminate teacher and the course counsellor.
Preparing for course counselling - students are responsible for exploring this website before course counselling sessions to ensure they are well informed of subject offerings
Students wishing to undertake a language should discuss this with their Course Counsellor to enable application to Distance Ed.
