Information related to the management of students applying for F&R price school meals, as well as students that are categorically eligible for free meals through participation in Federal Assistance programs, or based on their status as homeless, migrant, runaway, or foster child.
This recording, made by Heartland during a regional training session, describes the process of handling free and reduced applications including reporting and letters.
Districts are required by NYSED to conduct a Direct Certification download from their website followed by an import of the downloaded file into the food service software (Mosaic). This will update eligibility records accordingly.
After each Direct Certification is completed in Mosaic the Categorical Extension Utility should be used to review possible match extensions to others in a household.
Before adding any student to a direct certified record using this utility, verify the student is eligible to receive the extension. This utility uses addresses to match possible extensions.
