This interdisciplinary project achieved the objective of teaching students how to write research papers, and then summarize their research into an appropriately designed research poster. Students researched the ecology and conservation of an endangered species of their choice. Students researched the habitat, niche, and distribution of the endangered species. They also researched the relationships these species have with other organisms, which helps to create a stable and self-sustaining ecosystem. Lastly, students researched causes of endangerment and conservation efforts to save these species from extinction.
Unit 1 Summative
This unit coincides with reading The Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger. In the book, the main character is 16 years old and partakes in smoking and drinking. To understand the motivation behind Holden Caulfield's behavior and decisions, students will learn about the teenage brain and development, and the adverse effects of drugs and alcohol on the growing teenage body. The final product will be a video outlining research, and presenting it to lower grade level students in the secondary section.
