This semester-long course is divided across four units studying Astronomy and Geoscience. All units are aligned with NGSS standards and benchmarks, and the Laws of Thermodynamics are embedded in everything.
Throughout the course, we follow a mission scenario: Earth is becoming increasingly uninhabitable due to climate change, and our team has been tasked with finding humanity a new home. To do so, we must first design and calculate a stable orbit for a satellite around the Moon — one capable of locating star systems with potentially habitable planets and measuring their distance from Earth. Only after completing these two mission objectives can we turn back to Earth itself: understanding the conditions that originally made it habitable, and using geoscience data to explain why those conditions are now changing — and what comes next.
The semester cumulative exam will be the summative for the final unit and benchmarks. After a semester of using mathematical thinking, developing and using models, analyzing data, obtaining information and constructing explanations, it is now time for you to put all these pieces together. You will be presented a variety of types of geoscience data relevant to Climate Change in Colombia to then forecast the future climate.
