IB Learner Profile

OPEN-MINDED

The IB Learner Profile of the week is Open-minded: Open minded learners understand and appreciate their own cultures and personal histories, and are open to the perspectives, values and traditions of other individuals and communities. This week, reflect on something you can also become more open-minded about.

Below IB and AP students were open-minded about trying hiking up Crowdors Mountain and celebrate making it successfully to the peak of the mountain !

CARING

The IB Learner Profile attribute for the week is CARING. IB encourages scholars to show empathy, compassion and respect towards the needs and feelings of others. This week show you care about others by making a personal commitment to community service and acting to make a positive difference to the lives of others in your school or community. Remember, CARING is an attribute to carry throughout our lives. Students interested in community service opportunities please see Ms. Robinson or Ms. Mveng- Magana. Enjoy your week!

To the left, West Charlotte Students demonstrate caring by partnering with Block Love CLT to offer water and meals in the community.

The IB Learner Profile in 2021

Wow! it is amazing that our scholars have almost completed an entire semester already! As we approach the last few weeks of the first semester and 2021, let us all reflect on how West Charlotte students, staff and parents have demonstrated attributes of the IB Learner Profile:

On August 25, 2021, WCHS students were risk-takers as students and staff returned to full time face to face learning. Teachers were also Risk- Takers as they too approached helped support students by remaining open-minded to exploring new ideas and using innovative strategies to help scholars with a successful transition from virtual learning to a physical learning environment. The West Charlotte Faculty is a caring community of educators who show empathy, compassion, respect and have a commitment to service and making a positive difference in the lives of students, every staff member did his or her part to ensure students’ safety and continuity of learning remained top priorities during this unprecedented time.

As we persevere through the remainder of 2021, let us remain principled in our effort to develop as learners who are inquirers who develop a natural curiosity about the society we live in, thinkers who exercise initiative to solve problems, and knowledgeable by exploring and discussing perspectives and issues of community and international significance .

Finally, remember it is necessary to balance various aspects in our lives-intellectual, physical, and emotional. As a community, we can strive to achieve well-being for ourselves and others by being effective communicators who listen carefully to the perspectives of others. Therefore, in the true spirit of a Lion Pride, every student, parent, teacher, staff member, WC Alumni, and member of the West Charlotte School Community is encouraged to strive to be more “internationally minded by recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, and by doing their part to help create a better and more peaceful world”.
