My ancestors (mother's side) were some who arrived early in colonization in Jamestown, VA, soon settling in eastern North Carolina as farmers. My father's people came from German Bavaria during the 1800's initially settling in the Pennsylvania Dutch country near Lancaster, then migrating to the Fayetteville area later in the century and settling there at the beginning of the 20th century. One tradition our family had as I was growing up was serving shoo-fly pie (a Pennsylvania Dutch dessert) at Thanksgiving.
