Searching for Scholarships
Make time to search for scholarships. Set aside 30-45 minutes to work on scholarship applications and stick to your plan. The process can feel overwhelming at times, but if you apply to scholarships in chunks, the task may feel more attainable.
The order in which you should search for scholarships:
Large national scholarships that you fit ALL the criteria for. These deadlines are typically first and require the most amount of effort.
Scholarships at the universities and colleges you are applying to (Fall of Senior Year)
Scholarships that are specific to your state or local area (late Fall or early Spring semester)
Scholarships that are available nationally (can be completed at any time)
Don't run from the essays! You'd be surprised at how many students don't apply for scholarships because they require an essay.
College Specific Scholarships
Colleges and universities often offer scholarships directly through the college for students who apply. Generally, you apply for these scholarships in the fall of senior year.
The process for applying for scholarships will vary by college. There are some colleges that consider every student for scholarships based on the application that the student submits for admission, so outside of applying, there are no additional steps that need to be taken. Other colleges have portals or specific scholarship applications that students must submit separately from the application for admission.
You should review information on individual college websites about how they award scholarships.
There are some colleges that offer scholarships that require a nomination through Mallard Creek. Information will be sent out through Canvas and Creek Cash for these scholarship opportunties.
