East Mecklenburg High School has an International Baccalaureate (IB) program; The IB program is composed of three programs. The Middle Years Program (MYP) encompasses grades 9 and 10 and focuses on inquiry-based learning in preparation for either the Diploma Program (DP) or the Career Related Program (CP) in grades 11 and 12. The IB MYP is open to highly motivated ninth and tenth grade students with strong academic backgrounds. Student do not need to be certified as academically gifted to participate. While not required, it is highly beneficial if students who are rising 9th graders have completed Math I and/or the first year of French, Chinese, Spanish, German or Latin. Students are expected to complete Math 3 and level 3 world language by the end of the MYP (10th grade) to be eligible to join the DP.
In addition to academic requirements, students in all IB programs are expected to participate in and document evidence of service in the community.
