Meet the Coordinators
Meet Heather Hays, DP/CP Coordinator
Ms. Hays has been a member of the East Mecklenburg HS family since 2005. Originally an IB DP and MYP Chemistry teacher, she was also the MYP Personal Project Coordinator prior to transitioning to be the IB coordinator in 2017. As a part of the IB program, Ms. Hays will specialize in all things Diploma and Career-related Programs, though she will be assisting as many "pumpkins" as she can.
Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Ms. Hays earned a BA in Chemistry and Psychology from Case Western Reserve University and Masters of Arts, Teaching from the California University of Pennsylvania.
In her free time, you can find Ms. Hays with her nose in a book, trying something crafty, or enjoying time with friends and family.
Meet Erika Flanagan, MYP Coordinator
Ms. Flanagan is a 24 year CMS veteran, teaching social studies (world history, civics, economics and personal finance) course throughout the district. She joined the East Mecklenburg family in 2021 teaching MYP Economics and Personal Finance. Ms. Flanagan, will be taking on the role IB magnet coordinator at East Mecklenburg High School specializing in the MYP program.
Ms. Flanagan is a native New Yorker and attended SUNY University at Buffalo and received a Bachelor of Arts in History. She earned a Master’s degree in Adult Education from East Carolina University and a Master’s degree in Teaching from National University. Ms. Flanagan also earned National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
When she’s not working she enjoys reading, traveling, yoga and spending time with her friends and family.
