Description

The EE&C cell organised an awareness session on ‘Why to Learn Foreign Languages’ on 28th August 2018 in the Civil AV Hall. The session was targeted to students in the first, second, third and fourth year. The session was organised to provide information on the advantages of learning a foreign language, the variety of foreign languages taught in Bangalore, the various training institutes, etc.

Summary

The awareness session on ‘Why to Learn Foreign Languages’ was conducted on 28th August in the Civil AV Hall. It involved a series of talks by premier institutions which teach numerous foreign languages. The first speaker was Ms Vidya Suresh from Alliance Francaise, who elaborated the importance of the French language in several countries. She explained how France is welcoming to Indian students especially from the technical field. The second speaker was Ms Umita A Melwani from the Institute of Foreign Language and Culture. She spoke about the required proficiency levels of German, French, Italian, Spanish, Mandarin and Japanese for an international student. The next speaker was Ms Savita from Inlingua. She explained how each country has its own language proficiency requirement, and advantages of knowing the native language for a student studying abroad. The main purpose of the session was to explain the benefits of learning a foreign language and to highlight the languages that are in great demand for foreign education. The session was attended by students who were looking towards a foreign education in a country requiring a foreign language proficiency, students aiming for higher paid jobs abroad and students aiming for global business ventures requiring bilingual employees.

Overall, the session was beneficial to the students as it provided a clear idea on the variety of foreign languages available, the language proficiency requirement for higher education, and the importance of learning a foreign language for higher education as well as for a high-paid job.
