The EE&C cell organised an awareness session on ‘Opportunities through GATE’ on 20th August 2018 in the Civil AV Hall. It comprised of a series of talks by members of different coaching institutions. In addition, two faculty members shared their experience of appearing for the GATE examination. Not only did the session provide information on GATE, the speakers also explained the value of the GATE score in different areas.
Summary
The awareness session on ‘Opportunities through GATE’ was held on 20th August 2018 and was targeted towards students studying in the second, third and fourth years. The session began with a quick introduction about the sequence of speeches and agenda of the session by Prof. Sharmila.K.P followed by a motivational speech by the Placement Director Mr. Lakshman Malla.
Later the program continued with a series of talks by CMRIT faculty members, Mr Shashank Dubey and Dr Smarnika Panda. They explained how GATE is a prerequisite for MTech and that it is mandatory for students looking towards jobs in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs). They stated the current cut-offs for the various departments and categories with the help of a PowerPoint presentation. The speakers were from the Gateforum Institute and the Vani Institute, both renowned coaching centres for GATE. The speakers explained how the GATE score is valid for MTech, jobs in BHEL, ONGC, GAIL, NTPC, BARC, and for admission in German and Singaporean universities. They also spoke about the importance of planning in advance, and provided details about the exam dates and deadlines.
The students were able to understand the various aspects of the GATE exam, and they were able to clarify their doubts on the GATE examination and coaching. Overall, the awareness session provided an extensive amount of information, and was beneficial to the students.
