“LOCK HIM UP!” chant thousands of Washington Nationals fans during Game 5 of the World Series. As President Donald Trump is shown waving on the jumbotron, he is greeted by a chorus of jeers but this chant did not just materialize at Nationals Park. Over time more and more citizens of the United States have expressed approval of the impeachment of the president. Since being sworn into office, the president has been faced with multiple scandals that, until the Whistleblower Complaint, have not seriously threatened his continuance in office.
The impeachment inquiry began after a series of questionable events led congressional lawmakers to support, and ultimately, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, to publicly announce the beginning of an official impeachment investigation on September 24, 2019.
The reasoning behind the House’s launching of the impeachment investigation, officially known as the impeachment inquiry, was that the president allegedly had a phone call with Ukrainian President, Volodomyr Zelensky, according to an anonymous source who claimed to hear about the details of the call from another anonymous source. The “whistleblower” filed a complaint to the Inspector General, Michael Atkinson, stating that the president had asked Zelensky to investigate presidential opponent, Joe Biden, and his son, Hunter Biden. The complaint was classified and kept from being released to Congress for six weeks. Finally declassified on September 27th, the whistleblower's complaint is just the latest (alleged) transgression by a president who has become mired in malfeasance.
