St. Petersburg, Florida rapper and singer Rod Wave is back with his latest release Pray 4 Love, which was released on April 3, 2020. The album is his second studio project and follows last year’s Ghetto Gospel EP. Rod Wave is technically a singer/rapper, but he does a lot more singing than rapping. He never uses Auto-Tune in any noticeable way, and his bluesy-vulnerable tenor makes him stand out among today’s trap artists. In a nutshell; he’s very good at what he does.
Pray 4 Love is a warm and emotionally intense collection of stressed-out laments, and it’s full of thoughtful and graceful melodies. Wave mostly sing-raps about overcoming huge struggles and then facing more. His music can be genuinely affecting. My favorite song on his album is Girl of My Dreams, the 12th track on the album. This song is very emotional because Rod describes what he sees in his dream girl. I think everyone can relate because we all have a “dream girl or boy”, whether it’s our favorite celebrity or someone in our life.
Wave’s vocal abilities are remarkable, as he’s been singing since the fifth grade. In an era where new artists are expected to sing as well as rap, this 20-year-old artist is living up to his stage name and riding that wave of success all the way to the bank.
