What are School-Based Services?
School-Based Services are designed to meet the mental health needs of students and are provided directly in the school setting. The principal, guidance counselor, teachers and parents may refer students directly to the assigned School-Based Therapist at their school. In order to qualify for a referral, students may exhibit one or multiple symptoms requiring mental health services. Some of these symptoms may include isolation, truancy, aggression, impulsivity, anxiety, grief, depression, trauma, and poor social skills. Our goal is to help the student overcome emtional and/or behavioral problems that may impeded their school performance. We also work with the student, teachers, family members and other community professionals to coordinate services and interventions.
What are the benefits of School-Based Services?
School-Based Therapists are similar to outpatient therapeutic staff with several additional benefits. The children are able to easily access services regularly without interrupting their daily academic routine. Parents do not have to take children out of school for therapy appointments, because they all take place on the school campus. Providing services at school also allow for children whose parents work or don't have transportation to receive needed services. This program also decreases behavioral problems at school, because school issues can be handled quickly and on-site. The Therapist is readily available to students and teachers daily.
