SYLLABUS

RATIONALE

Veterinarians who are graduates of accredited veterinary colleges will have to take and pass licensure examinations in order to practice veterinary medicine in the country. Graduates must be competent in the practice of general veterinary medicine such as food animal practice (ruminants, swine, poultry and aquatic animals), companion animal practice (equine, feline, canine, etc.), zoo wildlife and laboratory animal practice and veterinary public health. The examinees are expected to be equipped with the knowledge and skills in the treatment, prevention, and control diseases of economic importance, diseases of animals transmissible to man (zoonoses), animal production, research and extension. The examinees must also be conscious of his social and civic responsibilities, must know the obligations in ethical practice, including their contributions towards national goals and development of the government. After all, the veterinary schools, government and private owe their existence to the national government.

GRADE DISTRIBUTION

The Veterinary Licensure Examination is composed of eight (8) core subjects with 100 questions per subject. The exam is multiple choice type with four (4) choices available. The final grade distribution is as follows:

      • Anatomy - 10%
      • Physiology - 10%
      • Parasitology - 10%
      • Pharmacology - 10%
      • Pathology - 12%
      • Zootechnics - 14%
      • Microbiology and Public Health - 16%
      • Medicine and Surgery - 18%

PASSING SCORE

  • The examinee must have at least a total percentage score of 75% in order to PASS the Licensure Exam.
  • The examinee with a score lower than 75% (but not lower than 60% ) in any of the subjects will PASS the exam if the total percentage score is 75% or above.
  • In case the examinee obtained a total percentage grade of 75% but with a grade lower than 60% in ONE of the 8 subjects, a CONDITIONAL grade will be given. The examinee will take ONLY that subject the following year. In case the examinee failed to pass the exam, he/she will take all the subjects on the succeeding year.
  • The examinee with a total percentage grade lower than 75% will be given a FAILED grade and will re-take the exam the following year.
