Unfortunately, sickness is a part of life in preschool, and it is likely that your child will be sick at least once during the school year. Please remember these guidelines about when your child might be sent home due to sickness, and when it is okay for them to return to school.
- Your child should not attend school, or may be sent home with the following CONTAGIOUS CONDITIONS to receive medical care, recover and protest the health of our students with weak immune systems:
- Fever 100+ degrees
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Lice
- If your child has been sick with a fever, he/she must be fever-free for 24 hours (without taking any fever reducing medication) before they can return to school.
- Please consider keeping your children home to monitor and reduce the risk of spreading germs if your child has the following conditions:
- Persistent Cough
- Persistent (Green) Runny Nose
- Undiagnosed Rash
- Lethargic/ not themselves
- Appears to be "coming down with something"
- A doctor's note is required for students with diagnosed contagious conditions:
- Common Examples: Whooping Cough, Croup, Norovirus, Hand/Foot/Mouth, Fifths Disease, Impetigo, etc.
- Medications MAY NOT be stored in the student’s backpack without specific medical instructions to do so.
- We may not give any student medication (including diaper creams) without a doctor’s note reviewed and approved by our SDC PreK Nurse or Health Office.
Your student may require a Safety Plan at school as part of their IEP for:
- Medical conditions
- Emergency medications
- Special dietary needs
- Physical / motor needs
- Personal safety needs
