Silky Oak

Native Range: Originally from Australia, it is found in the rain forests of south-eastern Queensland and north-eastern New South Wales.

Interesting Facts
- The leaves are poisonous and can cause skin irritation.
- Before aluminum's advent, the timber of the Silky Oak was used for external window joinery, because it is resistant to wood rot.
- The older it gets, it is able to withstand very low temperatures of -8 °C or 18 °F.
- The flowers and fruit contain toxic hydrogen cyanide.
