Gold (Au) is a chemical element and a dense lustrous yellow precious metal. It is the 79th element in the periodic table. Gold has several properties that make it particularly valuable in history. Attractive in color and brightness, almost indestructible in durability, highly malleable and often in relatively pure form in nature. The history of gold is unequaled by that of any other metal because of its perceived value from earliest times. Gold is an unforgettable metal that occupies a special place in the human mind.
Most of the gold mined is stored as gold bars. However, it is also widely used in jewelry, either in pure form or in alloy. The word "carat" indicates the amount of gold in the alloy. 24k is pure gold, but very soft. The 18-karat and 9-karat gold alloys are widely used because they are more durable.
None of the minerals mined from the earth are more useful than gold. Its use comes from a variety of special properties. Gold is conductive, does not change color, is easy to process, can be drawn into wire, can be hammered into thin sheets, alloys and many other metals that can be melted and cast into very detailed shapes with a wonderful color and brilliant luster.
Beside the 43% of Gold that being used in jewelry, gold can also be used in coinage and has been used in some countries as a standard in the monetary system.
Gold can be beaten into very thin sheets (gold leaf) to be used in art, for decoration and as architectural ornament.
Dentists sometimes use gold alloys in fillers. At the same time, gold compounds are used to treat certain arthritis cases.
Gold has been known since prehistoric times and was one of the first metals to be processed.
People found this substance in the riverbed, either blocky or granular. By 2000 BC, the Egyptians began mining gold. Tutankhamun died in 1323 BC, and his death mask contained 100 kilograms of this metal. There are also gold objects in the royal tomb of the ancient Ur (modern Iraq) that flourished between 3800 and 2000 BC.
Around 640 BC, the Kingdom of Lydia (now in Turkey) began to cast gold coins using local gold and silver alloys. The first pure gold coins were gram cast during the reign of King Croix. King Royce ruled from 561 to 547 BC.

Today, we continue to use gold as our most important items: wedding rings, Olympic Medals, Oscars, Grammys, money, crosses and church art.No other equally rare material has a more prominent and prominent place in our society.
California can be divided into 11 well-recognized natural divisions or geomorphic provinces. Each of these provinces has distinctive physio-graphic and geological features, and in each the distribution of economic mineral disposits, including gold, follows certain definite patterns associated with the major geological structures and rock types. The provinces are: 1) Klamath Mountains, 2) Cascade Range, 3) Modoc Plateau, 4) Coast Ranges, 5) Great Valley, 6) Sierra Nevada, 7) Basin Ranges, 8) Mojave Desert, 9) Transverse Ranges, 10) Peninsular Ranges, and 11) Colorado Desert.
