Department of Student Discipline, Prevention and Intervention
The Department of Student Discipline, Prevention and Intervention (DPI) provides leadership, guidance, oversight, and coordinated support in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of initiatives and evidence-based practices that foster positive student behavior while ensuring safe, supportive, and orderly learning environments where teaching and learning remain the highest priorities.
The department develops, coordinates, and implements the Clayton County Public Schools Student Code of Conduct and the Universal Discipline Matrix (UDM), providing schools with a consistent, equitable, and restorative framework for addressing student behavior. Through the implementation of the UDM, the department promotes fairness, accountability, and transparency in disciplinary decision-making while ensuring that behavioral responses are developmentally appropriate, culturally responsive, and aligned with district expectations.
In collaboration with school leaders, educators, families, and community partners, the Department of Student Discipline, Prevention and Intervention promotes positive student behavior, cultivates a positive school climate, and fosters a culture rooted in respect, responsibility, dignity, and accountability. Through proactive prevention, intervention, restorative practices, and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), the department equips schools with the tools and resources necessary to support the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional success of every scholar.
Recognizing that student growth is a developmental journey, the department is committed to supporting students as they navigate challenges, learn from their experiences, and build the skills necessary to become productive, responsible, and engaged citizens who are prepared to thrive in an increasingly diverse and global society.
