K-2 Weekly PE Module: Striking Pt. 2

Activity: Striking Challenges

Materials needed

  • Racquet or paddle and a ball

Directions

  • Elevator - Balance moving ball up and down

  • Ferris Wheel - Balance moving racquet around in circle

  • Wiggle/Jiggle - Balance ball while making it move on racquet

  • Drop and Catch - Drop ball with hand and catch on racquet

  • Toss and Catch - Toss the ball up with hand and catch or trap against racquet

  • Pancakes - Flip the ball up with racquet and catch on racquet

  • Ones - one toss up, one tap up, and catch with hand

  • Build Ups - Same as ones, but add on to the ups, Toss, tap 2x, catch

  • Popcorn - small ball taps up as many times as possible

  • Red light/Green Light - Have a partner or parent call “red light” or “green light”. When you hear “green light”, walk around the room balancing the ball on the racquet. When you hear “red light” freeze as fast as you can without losing the ball of the head of your racquet. You may speed up movements or even try skipping with the ball on the racquet.

Warm Up

Tennis Footwork

Materials needed

  • None, but can use your paddle or racquet

Directions

  • Follow along with Mr. Baum practicing forehand, backhand and volley skills

Activity: Striking Challenges

Materials needed

  • Racquet or paddle and a ball

Directions

  • Toss and Catch - Toss the ball up with hand and catch on head of racquet

  • Ones - one toss up, one tap up, and catch with hand

  • Build Ups - Same as ones, but add on to the ups. Ex. Toss, tap 2x, catch. Toss, tap 3x, catch. Etc.

  • Popcorn - small ball taps up as many times as possible

  • Toss and Catch High - Toss the ball up with hand and catch or trap against racquet

  • Toss, Bounce, Tap, Catch - Toss ball up with hand, let it bounce on floor, tap up with racquet and then catch with hand.

  • Toss, Bounce, Tap, Catch Build Up - Toss ball up with hand, let it bounce on floor, tap up with racquet and then catch with hand ( 1x first, 2x next for build up).
