Are you wondering if you should perform a distillation, or wondering why you should perform a distillation then I've got the answer for you! You should perform a distillation when you need to separate liquids from each other. You can also do a distillation when you need to make a liquid purer. This distillation works by boiling liquids so they evaporate If your liquids have a close evaporation point then you should consider using other methods or getting a really precise heat source.
HOW TO DISTILL STEP BY STEP
What you need for a distillation
A clean workspace
A condenser
Source of heat
Thermometer
Thermometer Plug
Receiver flask
2 hoses
Nozzle
Clamps
Ring stand
Boiling flask
Safety glasses
Gloves
How to set up a distillation
Put on safety glasses
Put the nozzle on the sink
Stand the ring stand upright on the clean workspace
Set the heat source next to the ring stand on the clean workspace
Clamp the boiling flask on the ring stand so it is being heated by the heat source when turned on
Clamp the condenser to the ring so it is connected to the boiling flask
Place the Receiver flask Underneath the exit hole of the condenser
Place a hose on the sink nozzle and put in the end of the condenser as depicted below
Place a second hose on the other end of the condenser and put the other end of the hose in the sink
make sure the hose is not touching the heat source if it is then put a hose clamp on the straight rod to keep the hose out of the way
Put the thermometer plug into the last hole above the bailing flask
Put the Thermometer into the thermometer plug
What is a filtration? Should I filter it? If you are asking yourself these questions then this guide will be perfect for you! A filtration is used to sperate solids from liquids. A filtration is not perfect so if you need 100% zero solids in it then use a different method but if your looking to only remove the macro solids then this will work for you! The filtration works by holding back all of the macro solids and only letting liquids and micro solids through.
What you need for a filtration
A container for your finished liquids/solids
A funnel
A Filter
A beaker for you solid/liquids
A clean workspace
How to do a filter
Place the container for liquids/solids on your work surface
Put a funnel in the container upright (not touching the bottom preferably)
Put the filter in the funnel as shown below (make sure there are no air bubbles on the side of the funnels filter because they can cause slow drip rate)
Put your liquids/solids in the funnel 3/4 of the way
Wait until it goes below the 1/2 mark then fill up to 3/4's again
Put your solids and or liquids into a container to store or use
