Climate, food, energy, equity and justice will be the focus of talks, workshops, demonstrations, posters, and exhibits highlighting ways to eat local, conserve energy, reduce bills, and be climate smart. Sessions are 60 minutes long unless otherwise noted.

This presentation will describe why carbon offsets are critical for incentivizing climate action at least cost. It will include examples from projects registered with the Climate Action Reserve and what role universities can play to add more capacity and value to the mitigation market.

The Conway School's Campus Sustainable Master Plan for SUNY Potsdam is presented with workshop activities to help you transform your backyard or your institution's or business's landscape. The focus is to explain how a systems approach to design can be implemented at various scales.

Jon and Will both live in net zero energy homes. They will describe the design, construction and operation of a home (Jon) and retrofitting an existing home with solar, a heat pump and induction stove (Will)

Tiny House Design for a Sustainable Lifestyle, Dr. Deborah Naybor, Paul Smith's College
Tiny homes are growing as a viable option to creating affordable, sustainable housing. In this workshop, you will learn design techniques which maximize available space and functionality while minimizing square footage. We’ll discuss options for plumbing, heating and energy supply as well as providing a review of building codes and regulations that can impact your ability to live legally in a tiny house.

Wear and Repair: Student-Led Workshop, Clarkson Sustainability Club, Clarkson University
Join this hands-on sustainable fashion workshop and clothing swap. Bring clothes you may no longer wear to swap and have the chance to learn how to mend your own clothes. There may even be a chance for you to make your own small mending kit

Benefits of Masonry Heaters: History, Structure, Design to Living Space and Use, Mark Seymour, Radiant Hearth Inc.
Masonry heaters are the most fuel efficient and comfortable way to heat your home with cord wood. Tulikivi heaters are made with natural soapstone inside and out and weigh between 2,000 and 10,000 pounds. This stone mass removes otherwise wasted heat energy and stores and gently releases the heat into your home.. Rich Road Solar Integrated Design Workshop, Haylee Ferington, EDF Renewables
In this workshop we will have an interactive session on what the community would like to see in and around the solar facility, such as sheep grazing, bee habitats and much more! Poster boards will be displayed around the room with different aspects of project design, where community members can in real time input feedback and ideas! Ideas will be discussed at the end of the session.

Old Tales for a New Millennium - Interactive Story Telling Session, Danny Dullea, Master Story Teller
Old Tales for a New Millennium. Danny Dullea’s session is a storytelling event illustrating eco-justice and sustainability to prove and promote alternative visions of nature as a transcendent source of aesthetic, spiritual and moral value. Danny is a performance storyteller, actor and civic media filmmaker. He recently retired from Clarkson University. During his career as instructor and Director of Creative Media for the Communication and Media Department, he taught digital video production, mass media and public speaking.

The Environmental Cutting Board, Dr. Deborah Naybor, Paul Smith's College
In this workshop, you will build a small but beautiful cutting board using local and exotic woods. But what is the economic and environmental cost of the chosen species? We'll not only examine the changing financial cost of lumber, but you will also consider the carbon footprint and ecological impact of each chosen board. Participants will assemble the cutting boards from precut strips (no cutting required) using glue and clamps. You can take the boards home but they will require finished trimming, sanding and sealing on your own.
