NoCoPEACS supports the US Department of Arts & Culture call for the practice of land acknowledgement: Acknowledgment by itself is a small gesture. It becomes meaningful when coupled with authentic relationships and informed action. But this beginning can be an opening to greater public consciousness of Native sovereignty and cultural rights, a step toward equitable relationship and reconciliation.
Please join us in adopting, calling for, and spreading this practice.
2026 SDGLF Land Acknowledgement
SUNY Potsdam respectfully acknowledges that we gather on the traditional, ancestral territory of the Kanien'kehá:ka (Mohawk) Nation, members of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. As we host the North Country Sustainability Day and Green Living Fair, we specifically recognize the ongoing environmental stewardship of the Kanien'kehá:ka community at Akwesasne.
Our focus today is guided by the Haudenosaunee philosophy of the Seventh Generation, and the teachings of the Ohen:ton Karihwatehkwen (The Words That Come Before All Else), which remind us of our responsibility to consistently offer gratitude to the earth, waters, and all living things. We invite you to turn that gratitude into action. Please take time to explore the vital conservation work of the SRMT Environment Division and consider how your own daily choices can help protect our shared ecosystem.
