We aim to inspire and empower everyone to combat the global climate crisis by fostering a culture of sustainability
across the North Country and beyond, by showcasing your work!
Climate, food, energy, equity and justice will be the focus of talks, workshops, demonstrations, posters, and exhibits highlighting ways to eat local, conserve energy, reduce bills, and be climate smart. If you have information related to sustainability in higher ed, research or that can assist people in living more sustainably, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, and building resilience to changing conditions, this is the place to be!
Categories
Case Study, Panel Discussion, or Workshop: 60 minutes sessions. These should include active participation by attendees and plenty of time for learning and discussion.
Poster or Activity Table: Presenters are expected to stand with their posters during the 75 min. Poster session to engage and discuss your work with attendees. The look and format of activity table or poster presentations is up to the creativity and imagination of the presenters. Each presenter will be given a table or a vertical display surface. Presenters are responsible for creating, transporting, hanging, and taking down posters/activities.
Artwork: Displayed throughout the event. Artists are responsible for creating, transporting, displaying, and taking down art. Acceptance will be based largely on logistical feasibility for displaying the artwork. We may contact you directly about logistics related to your artwork.
Live Performance: 5-10 minutes during the Poster Session and Reception. Performers are responsible for creating, transporting, displaying, and taking down performance aids. Acceptance will be based largely on logistical feasibility for displaying the performance. We will contact you directly about logistics related to your performance.
Potential Topics
Sustainability research: Research that brings science to the issues of sustainability and finds solutions to sustainability challenges
Build your skills: greenhouse gas inventory; project management & facilitation skills; branding sustainability (public speaking, presentation skills, grant writing, written, digital and social media, website development); fundraising
Household sustainability: carbon footprint analysis; energy & water conservation; green building and retrofitting; purchasing clean energy; electrifying your home or vehicle; waste & recycling; landscaping & gardening
Personal Sustainability (i.e. how to sustain yourself while promoting sustainability at home or in the workplace): sustainability and psychology; facilitation skills & conflict resolution; support networks for sustainability practitioners; human sustainability; health & wellness
Integrating diversity, inclusion and social justice: Develop competencies to collaborate, communicate, and manage conflict across cultural divides; building diversity, inclusion and social justice goals; learning to value and build solidarity across boundaries like race, class, and age
Community climate change resilience: community food security; microgrid; emergency preparedness; infrastructure resilience
Institutionalizing sustainability: Understanding municipal or higher education culture; integration of sustainability policies & plans; campus as a living lab, educational programming and curriculum integration; community engagement
