Penn Highlands Healthcare -Brookville Hospital -looking for a couple of good candidates to become phlebotomists. A phlebotomist collects blood and some other clinical specimens and performs all of the clerical tasks associated with getting the specimens ready for testing, billing and result reporting. The actual collection of blood is only about ten percent of the job; the other ninety percent is administration. Collecting a blood specimen is a physical skill like typing and is learned through repetition and coaching.
This is a unique opportunity for a new graduate who is not or not immediately college bound. Former alums may also be interested. The job requires some physical stamina as there is a lot of running between buildings and floors. It also requires a decent mind and a high degree of professionalism. Students who may have been headed to a medical office assistant or phlebotomy program would be good candidates. Also those considering a lot of associate degree programs within and outside of the medical field might also do well as a phlebotomist.
The great thing about these jobs is we will provide the training. We would train them in the nuts and bolts of the job here at Brookville and there are classes in medical terminology and customer service that they would take at the DuBois hospital. There would be no cost to the employee. They would have to take the certification exam within two years and our training would allow them to sit for that exam. We offer a full range of benefits and they would start getting paid on day one.
Below are the postings for the positions we have available.

Please reference Wanda Grinder, the lab director at Brookville, in applications. It would probably also be a good idea to speak to Wanda directly before applying; her number is 814-849-1808.
