Over the next three years the state of Arizona will transition from the science standards that have been in place for nearly two decades to new standards that are greater aligned to the modern world and the currently accepted standards nationally (YAY!!!!). We will now branch in to new more relevant content as well as maintain some of the previous content. More importantly the language within the standards has changed moving teachers away from solely using standard lecture and worksheet formats and moving in to kids actually doing science. In addition science classrooms are directed to move away from the traditional science model and move in to a STEM based classroom that represents todays world in which science, engineering and mathematics are integrated within technology. I take pride in the fact that our classroom already represents this practice but expect the classroom to move further in to STEM practices and project based learning covering more relevant topics over the next few years.
