In the case where the spouse of a teacher is also employed within Singapore, the school requests a letter from their Human Resources on the tuition fee benefit in kind given to the spouse in support of the child[ren] education. For example, if the spouse received 100% tuition benefit in kind within their compensation package the spouse’s firm will need to pay for the child’s tuition fee in full. If the spouse receives a percentage of tuition fee support, as stated in their letter, such as 50% then the remaining 50% amount will be given to the teacher as part of their tuition fee benefit in kind. If there is no tuition fee benefit is given to the spouse the teacher will receive 100% of the tuition fee benefit in kind for the child[ren]. The tuition fee benefit in kind is a taxable benefit in Singapore and will be added to their overall remuneration for tax purposes.
The teacher contract provides for 14 days of paid sick leave during each year, 60 days hospitalization leave and 2 additional leave days can be requested through the Head of School for the purposes of tasks/activities they are unable to do after work hours such as collecting their passport.
2. Length of the contract
The first contract is for 4 consecutive semesters, i.e. 2 years. Extensions are for successive two-year terms.
3. Are all teaching experience used for placement on the CIS salary grid?
Teaching experience gained after obtaining teacher qualifications recognized by a competent authority in a provincial or national jurisdiction (e.g. Ontario College of Teachers, Alberta Teacher Qualifications Board) will be recognized for salary grid placement purposes.
For new academic staff, the highest placement is step 10 on the grid. Such experience must be in full academic years while in the employment of a recognized education authority. Experience obtained through part-time or occasional teaching and which totals to a minimum of 180 days will be considered as one academic year if it is supported by a letter(s) from the employer(s).
For example, if a teacher worked in an ELL school for 4 years and then went back to university to obtain their teaching degree, their experience in the ELL school would be counted at 50% = 2 years.

There is a one-week holiday in October, three weeks in December, two days for Chinese New Year, and a one-week Mid -Term Break in March. The summer break is 6 to 7 weeks.
In the primary school, due to specialty teachers in a number of fields, the present timetable provides for about 240 to 280 minutes per week of ”prep time” while specialist teachers conduct classes. Some of that out-of-classroom time may be assigned to other duties. In the secondary school (Gr. 7 – 12), the typical load would be 30 periods/ week, each of 40 minute length with many classes having 'double ' periods.
