Science in Year 5

By the end of Year 5, the children will revisit relevant learning from their previous years in school to support them with their learning so they continue to be successful scientists, and importantly, continue to build on knowledge and skills. They will learn and explore Earth and space, animals including humans, living things and their habitats and properties and changes in materials. Below there is more detail about what will be learnt by the end of each topic and useful links to support your child to retain what they have learnt at home.

Examples of Science in Year 5

In Year 5, the children have a wide range of opportunities to experiment and present their findings using graphs, diagrams and pie charts. The children build on the vocabulary they have learnt previously and are encouraged to use it confidently using the prompts on display around the classroom.
